KPMG—one of the world's largest professional services firms for audit, tax, legal, and advisory services across 138 countries and territories—has announced a global alliance with Anthropic to bring Claude into the heart of its business.

As part of this alliance, KPMG is embedding Claude inside Digital Gateway, the software KPMG's people and clients use to do the actual work—starting with new tools for tax and legal clients. And every one of KPMG's 276,000+ employees globally will gain access to Claude.

Anthropic is also naming KPMG a preferred partner for private equity, and the two companies will build new Claude-powered products together for PE portfolio companies.

KPMG and Claude

KPMG helps organizations in various industries work together to transform, innovate, and effectively compete in tomorrow’s fast-changing world. Integrating AI across its core business furthers this mission—and requires trust and diligence.

“At KPMG, we’re innovating and redefining how work gets done,” said Bill Thomas, Global Chairman and CEO, KPMG International. “This global alliance with Anthropic reflects our shared commitment to responsible AI, prioritizing security, trust, and governance as KPMG firms scale these capabilities to our clients and people around the world.”

“KPMG works in industries where accuracy, accountability, and trust aren’t optional, and they're applying the same standard to AI. They’re rolling Claude out to 276,000 people across the business, and using it for client work in tax and private equity. They're also bringing it into cybersecurity, where it helps find and fix vulnerabilities. That's what a firm-wide commitment to AI looks like, and we're proud to be the partner they chose,” said Daniela Amodei, Co-founder and President of Anthropic.

Claude for 276,000+ KPMG people

Beyond the client-facing platform, every KPMG employee—all 276,000+ of them—will have access to Claude. That builds on two years of adoption inside KPMG in the US, including its AI and Data Labs, and the firm's internal teams.

As the rollout expands, KPMG and Anthropic will work with shared clients to co-develop new offerings, and modernize business functions by bringing Claude into more of KPMG’s business functions to help their team solve problems that weren't solvable before.

Cybersecurity is one of those areas. Across the alliance, KPMG and Anthropic teams will use Claude to find and fix vulnerabilities in critical systems, with the work guided by KPMG's Trusted AI framework.

“Our clients depend on us where accuracy, judgment, and knowledge matter most,” said Tim Walsh, Chair and CEO of KPMG US. “AI is changing how we deliver—trust and innovation are the core of this new offering and we’re proud to partner with Anthropic to deliver incredible value to our clients and our people. It’s one of the most important things we'll do.”

Claude powers KPMG’s Digital Gateway platform

Digital Gateway is KPMG's main platform for client work—built on Microsoft Azure, it's where KPMG's tax expertise, proprietary tools, and client data live together, and where KPMG's people build the AI tools they use day to day.

With Claude Cowork and Managed Agents embedded inside it, KPMG professionals and their clients can build new AI capabilities directly in the platform—work that used to mean jumping between tools, chat windows, and weeks of effort.

“Building an AI agent to help clients adjust to changing tax regulations used to take weeks and required teams to switch between multiple tools and chat windows,” said Rema Serafi, Vice Chair, Tax at KPMG US. “With Cowork and Managed Agents integrated in Digital Gateway, that same capability takes minutes. This is a totally different way of working.”

A preferred partner for private equity

PE firms are betting that AI will reshape how their portfolio companies run. KPMG becomes a preferred consultant for deploying Claude and Anthropic's agents into those portfolio companies—helping them with direct access to Claude to build new AI-driven products, processes, and services responsibly.

This work lands with the employees and builders inside portfolio companies. To set them up for success, KPMG developed a new portfolio of PE-focused offerings, including KPMG Blaze, which can embed Claude Code to help teams modernize aging IT systems faster and ship new AI-enabled technology in a fraction of the usual time.

“Human in the loop” in practice

Joint research from KPMG and the McCombs School of Business at UT Austin is helping clarify how the value of AI deployments depends on what people do alongside the technology—not just the technology itself.

“Organizations often talk about keeping a ‘human in the loop’ when using AI, but KPMG and UT Austin's research helps clarify what that human should be doing,” said Ethan Burris, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, McCombs School of Business at UT Austin. “We find that the greatest value comes not just from technical adoption, but from the ways employees exercise judgment, shape workflows, interface with the technology, evaluate its outputs, and make decisions with AI. As these tools become more embedded in consequential work, responsible deployment will require both capable technology and a much clearer understanding of the human role in creating value.”
